Frequently Asked Questions:
What is repatriation?
Repatriation is the return of your mortal remains to their final resting place in your country of origin in the event that you pass away while outside of your home country.
How much does this service typically cost for people who do not have repatriation coverage?
Arranging and paying for the return of mortal remains can be a complex and expensive process, costing many of thousands of dollars.
In addition to the substantial costs, repatriation requires extensive coordination of services including collection and transfer of the deceased, coordination of consular proceedings, the obtaining of necessary permits, coordination of air transport, and transport of the deceased remains in the destination country, just to mention a few.
What happens if I pass away while I am outside my home country?
El Regreso™ coverage extends to you anywhere in the world outside your home country, subject to stated limitations.
If an accident or illness results in your death, a first responder or loved one should contact us for assistance. Our toll-free and collect-call telephone numbers will be printed on your ID card. Our Emergency Response Center may be contacted 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, toll free or collect.
Your Emergency Response Coordinator will ask for the name and member number shown on your ID card, and a description of the situation. We will immediately begin assisting your family in the return of your deceased remains.
